As a proud KNX Partner, we’re excited to celebrate 35 years of KNX, a standard that has shaped smart homes and buildings worldwide. From its beginnings in 1990, KNX has grown from a small European initiative into a global system used by over 135.000 certified installers with more than 8.000 interoperable products.
How it started?
KNX began when a group of European manufacturers, including Siemens, Gira and Jung, decided to work together instead of creating separate competing systems. They wanted a standard that allowed devices from different brands to work together. This collaboration eventually led to the creation of KNX in 1999.
Why KNX works?
KNX works because it focuses on flexibility and reliability. Every KNX device is smart on its own, so systems keep running even if one device fails. The standard is open and backward compatible, making it easy to expand or upgrade installations over time. KNX also supports energy efficiency and can be used in everything from small homes to large commercial buildings.
